NOTES :SEP. 2016

Dear Nobles,

The newsletter for September 2016 is ready to be read on the Highlands Shrine Club’s website. Type www.highlandsshrine.com into your computer’s search feature OR just let me know at 471-2425 or my e-mail address sissel@stratomail.net if you need a copy of the newsletter.

Just a reminder that extra newsletters are located in the clear plastic rack next to the Club’s Office door, please help yourself. We want everyone to be informed as to what’s happening around the Club, as your attendance at all our events is very important to us!

As you will read in the newsletter, there are several opportunities for us all to get together in September:

1.  LABOR DAY PICNIC - MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 5TH “INDOOR” PICNIC – starts at noon; eat at 1 p.m. We will have a fun afternoon of eating delicious food, socializing, and celebrating the day’s event. The menu will be hot dogs and hamburgers; attendees are asked to bring side dishes and/or dessert. $3/each attendee to cover the cost of meat and other items. Members, Ladies and guests are invited to attend. We had over 50 at our Memorial Day picnic! Please phone 382-2208 and leave your name, number attending and the food item you would like to bring on the Club’s answering machine. See you there!

2.  BOARD OF DIRECTOR’S MEETING - Monday, September 12 - 7 pm. Nobles, please plan to attend to discuss upcoming events which are important to the Club.

3. DINNER AND BUSINESS MEETING FOR NOBLES AND LADIES - Wednesday, September 28 - 5:30 p.m. - reservation cut-off date is September 26. Menu: Broccoli cheddar soup, grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, dessert, coffee & iced tea. The cost is $8/each. The Club does its best to keep the cost of meals down while providing delicious meals for you. Please phone the Club at 382-2208 to make your reservation. We have not met during the summer months, so there is plenty to discuss in both groups. Please plan to be there.

4.  SATURDAY MORNING BREAKFAST RESUMES - beginning on September 10th - 8 to 10 a.m. The menu will stay the same: pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee for only $5.00 each. Please note that there is a great need for cooks, taking customer orders, cashiering and cleaning up after the breakfast is over. The same faithful crew is there each weeks, but they could use some additional help. Please speak with President Don Cains, Nobles Jim Keaveny and Sam Wilkin to volunteer.

5. TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 - BUNCO AT 11: 30 a.m. This is a lively game that many people enjoy (ladies and men) which was started back at the Club in 2006 by Sissel, assisted by Mary Hazen, Bernice Snoll and many others. A lunch is brought in by the attendees; $4 each to play. Check the local newspaper for additional details.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the fun afternoon luncheon at the Olive Garden on Wednesday, August 24. This event was in lieu of the August social at the Club. 24 members and friends attended, and we all had a great time!  Thanks to Connie Callihan who provided the discount coupons which saved us $2.00+ each on our meal. Sissel, party planer coordinator, notified everyone of the new location after our original restaurant was closed for renovation. Thank you to all who attended!!

The Dart group is growing in numbers of attendees and FUN!  Come on out on Friday nights at 7 p.m. to be part of the “action”. The cost is $1.00/each – what a bargain for a delightful evening (winners get their $1.00 back). After all the calorie burning from playing darts, we move on to the DQ for more fellowship, yummy ice cream, and a great time to socialize some more. Be there!

The men’s card games need YOU to be there on Tuesday nights at 6 p.m.  Please phone Noble Tom Stark at 314-0606 for details. There are currently no men playing cards; so guys, you are missing out on a good time. Please join them.

The Ladies’ card game Stix is going on at 6 p.m. on Tuesday nights. This is a fun game; be sure to check it out! Mary Jean at 453-0594 will answer any questions you may have about the game.

Don’t forget the Wednesday morning coffee & donuts at 8:30 to 10 a.m. There are two friendly tables -- one for the Nobles and one for the Ladies. Thank you to each of the attendees who help by making coffee and bringing in goodies weekly (Nancy Keaveny brought them last week). This is a very successful event, I’m glad to see that it is continuing. YOU (Nobles and Ladies) are always welcome!

Just a BIG thank you to everyone who has attended the two summer picnics,  brought friends and delicious food. Also those who helped by cleaning up the kitchen, clearing tables and making the large room ready for the next event. You are appreciated!
